The Children Looked After CAMHS Team (Nottingham City)

Our specialist service is jointly commissioned with Nottingham City Council. We support and maintain the emotional and mental health needs of children in care in the Nottingham City area, recognising the importance of working with children's networks to promote placement stability. The team can:

  • Assess mental health needs.
  • Offer regular network consultation.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention.
  • Training and psychoeducation to increase resilience through building skills and knowledge.

Accessing our service

This team works with children who are in Local Authority care (Looked After), living within the City.

We will consider referrals from children who are placed in the City by other Local Authorities.

Children may be living with foster carers, in residential care, in semi-independent provision, or independent living up to the age of 18.

Referrals should be made directly to the team by the child’s allocated social worker. To request a referral form, please email: CICCAMHSCity@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

This email address is the most reliable way to reach the team and we will aim to respond by the end of the next working day.

Information for health professionals

How to refer someone to this service

The service is for professional networks working with children who are in care within the Nottingham City boundaries, or placed in Nottinghamshire by Nottingham City Council.

The team compromises of a Team Manager and specialist social workers, together with psychiatry, psychology, psychotherapy, SALT (Speech and Language Therapy) and nursing input provided by Nottingham City Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Referrals from other professionals (e.g. Placement staff, schools, GP, Pediatricians)

Where enquiries are made by professionals other than the child's allocated social worker, the social worker will be contacted within 1 working day and they will be asked to submit a CLA CAMHS referral. This is an acknowledgment that the allocated social worker will have access to background information and will also be able to act on their local authority's behalf with regard to parental responsibility.

The initial referee will be contacted and advised that this has been actioned. We will not be able to progress with planning an assessment until we have received a completed referral from the child's social worker.
