Aims of the session
To develop knowledge of why oral suctioning may be required and how to carry out oral suctioning.
Objectives of the session
- A basic understanding of the upper airway and lungs
- How to recognise when a young person may need suctioning
- How to carry out suctioning safely
Teaching and learning strategy
A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be facilitated during the theory session to include presentations and question and answer sessions.
Target audience
Anyone caring for a child or young person in a community setting who has oral suction.
Delivery format and duration
- Face to face: 30 minutes
- MST: 30 minutes
- Moodle: available for annual update
