Vagal Nerve Stimulation for Paediatric Epilepsies
This session aims to provide carers with the knowledge and skills to care for a child or young person with a Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS), including magnet use.

Aims of the session
- To have an overview of VNS (Vagal Nerve Stimulation).
- To have an understanding of when to use the magnet.
Objectives of the session
- To be able to explain what VNS therapy is.
- To understand when it is appropriate to use a magnet and how to do so.
- To be able to recall some of the side effects of VNS therapy.
- To know whom to contact with concerns.
Teaching and learning strategy
A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be facilitated during the theory sessions to include presentations and question and answer sessions.
Target audience
Anyone in the community setting caring for a child or young person with a VNS implanted.
Delivery format and duration
- Face to face: 20 minutes
- MST: 20 minutes
- Moodle: available for annual update only
