Nasogastric Tube Awareness: Enteral Feeding and Administration of Medication
This session is designed to provide learners with information about nasogastric feeding including feeding, medication and testing. There will be time spent looking at trouble shooting.
This training does not cover how to insert a nasogastric tube.
If administering medication, it is advised that the learner also attend Medication Administration Awareness training.
There are a minimum of two competency assessments required for this training. Learners are not deemed competent until they have completed both theory and practical elements. Competency assessments need to be booked at the learner’s venue with the child or young person present in order for the nurse assessors to observe the learner using the tube.
Competency assessments must be completed within three months of theory training.
This training is child specific which means that the competency skills are not transferable. On receipt of your referral for this training, a Training Team nurse will contact you to discuss your training needs.
