Trust shortlisted in national Oral Health Awards
Nottinghamshire Healthcare’s Oral Health Promotion Team has been named a Finalist in the Best Community Initiative category of the 2020 Oral Health Awards, for their Brush, Book and Bed Campaign.
The campaign was created as it was highlighted that some new parents with young children were not accessing local dental services and not aware of the key oral health messages. To capture this group, a new simple yet engaging campaign was created to go out into the community to reach this audience, The Brush, Book and Bed Campaign
The team went out to libraries and local Childrens centres, taking the campaign directly to those who needed it. They talked about toothbrushing, why it is important, how to do it, products and techniques, plus the common barrier’s families may come across and how to overcome them. Most importantly - discussing how embedding a good night-time routine was to the benefit of all.
The sessions included an opportunity for families to clean their children’s teeth. Every child was given a toothbrush and smear of toothpaste. They also highlighted the importance of minimising any toothpaste being swallowed. Everyone received a goody bag to support toothbrushing at home (toothbrush, toothpaste, cleaning chart, story book, sticker and a leaflet relative to the child’s age.
Julia Wilkinson, Head of Oral Health Promotion said:
“We are feeling so honoured to be included in the list of finalists this year, alongside some of the greatest and truly inspirational dental practitioners in the UK. It has been a challenging year for us all so this is especially welcome”
The Oral Health Awards exist to recognise the progress, effort and enterprise amongst dental professionals in the UK. The individuals and team members shortlisted represent the rising standards in dentistry as a whole, and demonstrate the passion dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
The virtual ceremony is on 12 November when winners will be announced.
