Trust shortlisted in HSJ Value Awards
The Trust has been shortlisted for three HSJ Value Awards. The prestigious awards celebrate the work driving operational, financial, and clinical improvements across the healthcare system.
The Trust’s Children’s Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team (including Rapid Response) is shortlisted in not one but two categories; Paediatric Care Initiative of the Year and Respiratory Care Initiative of the Year.
The team (pictured above) support children with complex neuro-disabilities and severe respiratory difficulties, providing specialist, rapid assessment and treatment in the community. The children they work with have life limiting conditions and are at risk of life-threatening chest infections. They have been recognised for their work to improve quality of life, reduce hospital admissions and emergency department attendances and reduce the lengths of stays in hospital.
Moira Flanigan, Clinical Lead, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted. We have continued to provide patient care throughout Covid-19 and are delighted to have been able to prevent hospital admissions and keep patients at home.”
The Trust’s healthcare team at Morton Hall Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is also shortlisted, in the Public and Preventative Health Service Redesign Project category. The team was recognised for its work, in partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, to develop a test and treatment pathway to tackle Hepatitis C in Morton Hall IRC. Patients had previously disengaged with testing and treatment due to the length of time it took to receive test results and arrange treatment. Many patients left before starting treatment. Now patients are seen on site by the Hep C Nurse Specialist who advises regarding treatment and options for this are discussed. The team has also increased clinics and a courier service has been arranged to ensure timely delivery of medication.
Sara Jones, Physical Health Clinical Lead and Project Lead, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, alongside our colleagues at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust. It was a fantastic project that created the development of a testing to treatment pathway and showcased how the joint working between the three Trusts improved outcomes for our patients. It also contributed to the achievement of the World Health Organisations target of eradicating certain blood borne viruses by 2025, for which we are thrilled.”
Winners will be announced in June 2021. More info on the awards can be found at: https://value.hsj.co.uk/.
