Nottingham's Tooth Fairies shortlisted for national dentistry award
Nottinghamshire Healthcare’s Oral Health Promotion Team has been shortlisted in the Website and Digital Campaign of the Year category at The Dental Awards 2018.
The Dental Awards, hosted by Dental Republic, recognise teams and individuals whose commitment to patient care and professional development continues to raise standards across UK dentistry.
The Oral Health Promotion Team, also known as the Tooth Fairies of Nottingham, was nominated for the creation of their interactive and informative oral health website and for their Twitter campaign called ‘The Christmas Advent’.
The website, www.nottinghamoralhealth, offers advice on children and adult oral health as well as a variety of useful resources including activities for children. Health professionals, children, adults and dental practices have their own areas so information is easily accessible.
To develop the website the team spent time engaging with dental practices, service users, children, families and health professionals to ask what they would look for and what they wanted to get from accessing the site. The team have always listened to feedback and bring new ideas and concepts to the website as trends change to ensure the information is up-to-date.
The Twitter Campaign, ‘The Christmas Advent’, ran through December 2017 with the team creating and tweeting 25 short films and images promoting a specific oral health message each day. The aim to raise awareness of good oral health through people retweeting messages was a success with the campaign engaging with over 12,000 Twitter users during December.
Julia Wilkinson, the Trust’s Senior Health Promotion Specialist (Oral Health) said: “We are overjoyed to be recognised nationally for all our hard work and innovation, especially as a small team of two who’ve had no web design experience or social media training! We hope we inspire other people not to be frightened of the digital world and to just give it a go.”
Winners will be announced on 18 May at an awards ceremony held alongside The Dentistry Show in Birmingham.
