SAS Week - Dr Atif Mahmud
In our final blog for SAS Week 2024 we hear from Dr Atif Mahmud who reflects on his journey, discusses the personal growth he has experienced, not only as a medical professional but as a mentor and leader. He emphasises the value of continuous learning and staying adaptable in a continuously evolving field.
I have been a part of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for over the past few years, and it has been a truly rewarding experience. Throughout my time here, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of supporting colleagues to ensure the success of our organisation. In my role as SAS Advocate for the trust, I have been committed to promoting the wellbeing and career development of SAS doctors. As an advocate, providing a platform for mutual support and shared learning for colleagues has been essential. I’ve also supported the establishment of a peer group for SAS doctor colleagues working in the trust.
In addition to my advocacy work, I am involved in a Quality Improvement (QI) project aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery using VR technology. I also sit on the Approved Clinician (AC) panel, contributing to decisions that shape our clinical workforce, which has been a rewarding experience. Prior to this, I served as the SAS representative for some time, where I led initiatives, such as implementing rota changes to improve work-life balance for SAS doctors.
