Walking
Why walking?
Walking is good for our physical and mental health. Walking in greenspaces in particular has been shown to:
- Reduce stress and fatigue
- Enhance mood
- Improve self esteem
- Reduce feelings of anger, depression or tension
Where to walk?
There are a wide variety of areas within the Nottingham City and wider Nottinghamshire area that make great locations for walking in greenspaces, you could try watching wildlife while you're walking:
- Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust run a network of 42 nature reserves across the county.
- Nottinghamshire County Council have 5 country parks.
- Nottingham City Council run Wollaton Hall and Park
- The various Borough Councils manage other parks and country parks across the county.
There are also many other organisations who manage open areas including the Forestry England, National Trust, the Woodland Trust and other county Wildlife Trusts on Nottinghamshire’s borders such as Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Sheffield and Rotherham
Greenspace and the Integrated Care System have designed a map to help you explore a greener Nottingham from your doorstep. Take a look at the Nottingham Greenground Map!
It is now accessible via the GreenSpace NG App; a film has been created to explain how to use the app, you can view it by visiting the GreenSpace YouTube channel - GreenSpace NG App walkthrough.
