Specialist Physiotherapists

We are a group of Specialist Physiotherapists and support staff covering the city and county who are able to work with people with a confirmed Intellectual Disability (Learning Disability).

Adults who have an Intellectual Disability (Learning Disability) deserve to be able to use the same specialist services that everyone else does. Sometimes the services need to make changes to help make that happen. These are called 'reasonable adjustments' and might mean things like a longer appointment, or a quiet space.

Our Physiotherapy Team work with people whose Intellectual Disability makes it too difficult to use these services, even with reasonable adjustments.

What we can help with

Physiotherapists will listen and can come and work with you wherever is best for you: this might be at home; or at your day service or short breaks service. We are able to work with other teams you are also involved with such as social care.

Physiotherapy may involve:

  • Teaching you and your carers exercises to help your body move better,
  • Help you walk better or prevent you from falling over,
  • They may also use the trampoline or hydrotherapy to help achieve this,
  • They may look at your position in a wheelchair, sitting down or lying in your bed and make sure these are right for you.
