Seven Nottinghamshire Healthcare colleagues were among special guests at two events held in London to mark the NHS’s 75th birthday.
Five colleagues from the Trust were privileged to attend a multi-faith service being held in Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 5 July to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
The service saw Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh joined by NHS staff, senior government and political leaders, health leaders and celebrities to pay tribute to the NHS and all its achievements.
Colleagues were chosen from a shortlist of nominations from the Trust’s latest Outstanding Service and Recognition Scheme which will be celebrated on Friday 7 July at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.
The guests who attended the event at Westminster Abbey and chosen to represent Nottinghamshire Healthcare were:
Annette Ellison, Team Leader, Integrated Care Team, who has an exceptional dedicated and can-do attitude that inspires colleagues and shows great respect to every member of the team.
James Huguenin, Team Leader, Urgent Care Services, who set up and developed a new service to help those in crisis and to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. As a team lead James goes above and beyond not only for his team members, but for patients too.
Stephen Goodwin, Volunteer, is compassionate, understanding and open about his own experiences which he shares with patients whilst maintaining professional boundaries. Nothing is too much for him and he really is a strong patient advocate and good friend of Wathwood Hospital.
Jenny Bailey, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) Lead Practice Learning Education Facilitator, has a passion to improve mental health through sustainable social prescribing, connecting people to nature-based activities and green initiatives. Together with Greenspace, she developed a new referral system across the mental health pathway to identify patients interested in gardening or wildlife and has been instrumental in launching a Dementia Community Peer Hub.
Melanie Rowland, Associate Director of AHPs, ran a ‘Love to be Green’ campaign to raise awareness for allied health professionals (AHPs) on how they can incorporate more sustainable and greener practices as part of their roles. The campaign supports the Trust Green Plan, in particular patient-focused, low-carbon care.
Thrilled to have been chosen to attend the event, Melanie commented, “We were extremely proud to represent Nottinghamshire Healthcare today and to be given this wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate the amazing achievements of the NHS and colleagues on its 75th birthday.
NHS England, in partnership with NHS Charities Together, hosted the event for NHS staff, volunteers and partners to commemorate this celebration of 75 years of the NHS and its workforce.
Two further colleagues attended an event at No 10 Downing Street after NHS staff were invited to a reception as part of the NHS’s 75th birthday celebrations.
Lexie Whittington, Clinical Lead Nottingham North and East has over 40 years’ experience in the NHS and is committed to putting patients at the heart of all she does and her honesty, integrity and exceptional dedication to the NHS service is second to none.
Amanda Selby, Operational Team Lead from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) leads with care and compassion and always has time to lend an ear when things get tough. She “gets the job done - proactive, focused, conscientious and the young people are at the heart of everything she does.
Ifti Majid, Chief Executive of the Trust said, “I am delighted that some of our colleagues are able represent our organisation and workforce at this very special event. Appreciation on this scale is a huge recognition to all our colleagues at the Trust for their dedication, care and commitment caring for our patients and their families through the toughest of times. I am so proud that some of our frontline colleagues are able to contribute to the national celebrations to mark 75 years of the NHS.”
