Refurbished facilities for older people officially opened

The Coppice Official Opening

Nottinghamshire Healthcare has officially opened its newly refurbished The Coppice, based at Highbury Hospital in Bulwell, at a special event held today.

The event was an opportunity for attendees to celebrate the official opening, view the facilities and find out more about the services provided. The Coppice comprises two buildings, the refurbished Hazelwood House and new Underwood House. These provide a base for day and community services, outpatient clinics and group therapy for older people with a range of mental health issues and people of any age diagnosed with dementia.

The refurbishment of Hazelwood House has resulted in a fantastic modern, bright and welcoming facility. This includes treatment rooms for outpatient clinics and larger rooms for a range of day therapy groups, including a Working Age Dementia Group and Mental Health Services for Older People Group. It is also the base for medical staff and several services, including the Memory Assessment Service and Intensive Recovery Intervention Service for older people.

Underwood House, a new modular building, provides a base for a number of community mental health teams for older people, including the Dementia Outreach Team, City Community Mental Health Team and City Mental Health Intensive Recovery Service. It is also the base for the Working Age Dementia Service.

Paul Smeeton, Executive Director of Local Partnerships at Nottinghamshire Healthcare, said: “The Coppice has resulted in greatly improved facilities for older people using our outpatient mental health services, as well as people of any age with a dementia diagnosis. People’s individual appointments are now held in bright and welcoming clinic rooms and the addition of larger rooms has meant we can offer a range of different group sessions. The special celebratory event has given us the opportunity to mark and celebrate these significant improvements in the care environment.”

Hazelwood House is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm. A range of multi-disciplinary staff deliver services and referrals can be made via a GP or other healthcare professional. For more information contact Hazelwood House on 0115 876 0100.
