Congratulations to Jane Buchanan, Domestic Team Leader at Lings Bar Hospital who was chosen to attend a special ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on Monday 5 July. The special event celebrated the 73rd birthday of the NHS and thanked NHS colleagues and other key workers who have worked tirelessly and selflessly throughout the pandemic.
Jane is a Facilities Domestic Team Leader working for NHS Property Services (NHSPS) based at Lings Bar Hospital. She is responsible for all the NHS Property Services domestic staff at Lings Bar Hospital, Seaton House Urgent Care Centre and Cotgrave Health Centre.
Jane said, “The past 16 months have been very challenging with implementing new cleaning practices, additional staff training and recruitment, and adhering to strict government COVID guidelines and on top of that it’s “business as usual”. However, I really enjoy my role and feel extremely privileged to be part of a great Facilities Management Team.
“I was nominated to be part of the special service by my manager, Facilities Coordinator Karen Hall, following a request from NHSPS Public Affairs Team to nominate staff who had gone above and beyond during the COVID pandemic.
“I was overjoyed when I was chosen by the Palace to speak to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, earlier this year and we chatted for over 10 minutes about lots of things including football.
“I was then invited by Sir Simon Stevens, NHS Chief Executive, to attend the Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving on the anniversary of the NHS at St Paul’s Cathedral on 5 July. I can honestly say the event and chatting to Prince William means the world to me and experiences I will never forget.”
Sir Simon Stevens addressed the congregation during the event, thanking health service staff who have "served so selflessly" throughout the pandemic, as well as "the care workers, the shop assistants, the bus drivers, the teachers and countless others on whom we as NHS staff ourselves depend".
Congratulations Jane and what an amazing occasion to be part of.
