A graphic designer working at Nottinghamshire Healthcare has been shortlisted in the national ‘Our NHS at 75’ photography competition for his photograph reflecting the celebration of the LGBT+ community at Nottinghamshire Pride and the fantastic diversity across the city and county.
Jordan Duke from Nottingham works in the communications team at the Trust. His photograph is one of 75 shortlisted across five categories that will be displayed at a public exhibition at Fujifilm House of Photography in Covent Garden, London. The exhibition will be open to public viewing from the 5 July – 75 years to the day from the date that the NHS was established.
Graduating with a graphic design degree and with his background in social media and content creation, Jordan helps look after the Trust’s graphic and creative design needs along with leading large-scale recruitment and retention campaigns and event promotion. Jordan is also the communication and marketing lead for the Trust’s LGBT+ Staff Network.
Jordan submitted a photograph he took at Nottinghamshire Pride in 2022, an event jointly organised with partners in the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS). His photograph was entered into the ‘Our Partners’ category of the competition, which celebrates the crucial role that partnerships play in helping the NHS to deliver the best possible care for patients.
Jordan said about his entry, “I decided to enter this photograph as it just oozes what the Nottinghamshire Pride and the LGBT+ community is all about, inclusivity, diversity and talent, whilst highlighting our joint partnership work to organise such an important event. LGBT+ people still continue to face unacceptable stigma and the NHS workforce is no different and this image shows the support and solidarity we have for our LGBT+ colleagues.
“The photograph also reflects our Trust value of ‘Respect’ which ensures we as an organisation are inclusive, promote equality and diversity and challenge discrimination.
“I'm thrilled to have my photo shortlisted, especially on the momentous occasion of the 75th Birthday of the NHS. It fills me with immense pride to think that my photo will contribute to showcasing the incredible diversity that Nottingham has to offer.”
The photography competition saw hundreds of photos entered by NHS staff and volunteers across the five categories and Jordan has been invited to attend a celebration event for the winners and all the shortlisted photographers at a special launch of the exhibition at the FUJIFILM House of Photography on Tuesday 4 July. The five winners will have their photographs displayed at the NHS 75th anniversary service at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 5 July.
