Bumper summer of fun
Hucknall Children’s Centre has had a bumper summer of fun this year! A wide range of free activities were provided at various locations across Hucknall throughout July and August after speaking with families about what they wanted over the holiday period. Nottinghamshire Children and Families Partnership (NCFP) manage the Children’s Centres across the county, on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, and are made up of Nottinghamshire Healthcare, North Nottinghamshire College and Family Action.
Activities have ranged from beach parties with pony rides to ‘Fun at the Fair’ with an inflatable slide, as well as ‘Meet the Animals’ where families were able to get up close to snakes, racoons and spiders. They also had ‘Forest Schools’ where children were encouraged to use tools, build dens and explore natural activities.
One parent’s comment at the end of an activity sums up the general positive feedback received over the summer “Lots of fun for the children through the holidays thanks to Sure Start having different fun activities for all the children”. A child’s comment echoed this by simply writing “I’ve got a word….Fabulous!”
The final event of the Summer, was a disco held at Hucknall Young People’s Centre where children enjoyed dressing up in the photo booth, having glitter tattoos and eating hot dogs and mushy peas.
Michelle Squires, Community Development Worker at the Children’s Centre said “over 1,300 people have attended our free play events over the summer and it’s been lovely to see the difference we’ve made to so many families from Hucknall. Now we need to start planning for October half-term and Christmas!”
The usual group timetable for families with children aged 0-5 years starts again week commencing 12 September.
