Adam Jackson, Clinical Live Team Lead and Occupational Therapist honoured with prestigious Greener AHP award

Nottinghamshire Healthcare is delighted to celebrate the achievements of Adam Jackson, Clinical Live Team Lead and Occupational Therapist, who has been awarded the prestigious Greener AHP Badge and Certificate for his exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability. Adam's pioneering efforts have driven forward sustainability initiatives within the Trust, supporting both patient recovery and staff engagement while reinforcing the role of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in creating a greener NHS.
Adam has played a key role in integrating sustainability into healthcare practice, fostering a culture that values environmental responsibility while enhancing patient wellbeing. His leadership has strengthened the Greener AHP capacity within the Trust, which employs approximately 675 registered AHPs and 400 AHP Support Workers. Through his work, Adam has empowered AHPs to lead sustainable healthcare initiatives, recognising the crucial link between green spaces and mental health recovery.
Understanding that access to nature can significantly benefit mental health, Adam has led multiple projects to enhance green spaces across Trust sites. Building on the redevelopment of an allotment at Sherwood Oaks, he co-founded the Green Space Think Tank, bringing together AHPs, Energy and Environment teams, and external partners such as Natural England, Men in Sheds, and Nottingham CVS. His resourceful approach has led to the expansion of green space projects at other Trust sites, ensuring both patients and staff have access to therapeutic outdoor environments. He has also successfully secured funding for the Nature Recovery Ranger Programme, a two-year funded initiative under the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Nature Recovery, which provides oversight of green spaces and supports therapeutic activities for patients.
In addition, Adam has developed a Green Space Toolkit to guide teams in planning green space initiatives, contributed to the Green Social Prescribing Hub to inspire staff and patients to utilise nature for wellbeing, and embedded sustainability principles into AHP student placements. He has worked closely with the Trust's Involvement Team to develop green skills within the NHS, supporting the recruitment of four Green Space Volunteers, and has delivered sustainability-focused education sessions on AHP Skills To Build, an open learning platform for system AHPs.
As part of Greener AHP Week, Adam was officially presented with his Greener AHP Badge and Certificate in recognition of his outstanding achievements. The badges, awarded by the National Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) and the Greener AHPs initiative, are not given out lightly, and the Trust was keen to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of Adam in leading greener healthcare efforts. The presentation was made by Suzanne Avington, Associate Director of Allied Health Professionals at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Reflecting on the award, Suzanne Avington said: "Adam's commitment to environmental sustainability is truly inspiring. He has not only led on vital green space projects but has also championed sustainability education and collaboration across the Trust. His work is a shining example of how AHPs can drive meaningful change, benefiting both patients and staff. It was an honour to present him with this well-deserved recognition."
Looking ahead, Adam continues to drive forward sustainability initiatives, actively sourcing funding opportunities and developing new projects. His passion, leadership, and innovation have made a lasting impact, and the Trust congratulates him on this well-earned recognition.
