£1000 grant transforms Hazelwood House green space for patients and staff

The Trust’s Live Team, who work across services to improve inpatient experiences through therapeutic activities, secured a £1000 grant last year from Persimmon Community Champions who fund local good causes across the UK. The grant was used to enhance the Hazelwood House courtyard at Highbury Hospital and has transformed the green space into a welcoming area for service users and staff.

The grant was used to purchase materials and pay for a gardener to design the space and lead on the works, but the real work has been done by staff and service users, and over the past year the Live Team have organised a number of ‘Ground Force Days’, where they have worked together to transform the courtyard.

Benches have been sanded and painted to create a seating area and beds have been dug over and planted out to create a sensory garden, as well as upcycling and planting out a number of raised beds. The courtyard is now finished and ready to be enjoyed by the service users and staff of Hazelwood House. Well done to all involved.
