Patient stories

A patient story is an individuals account of their experience of being a patient of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The story is described in the patient or carers own words and are invaluable for us to learn about how it feels to be a patient or carer in our services.

Why do we collect patient stories?

A patient story provides valuable feedback by offering an in-depth view of a patient's healthcare journey. Unlike surveys, these stories are gathered through face-to-face conversations, allowing for follow-up questions to clarify details and identify areas for improvement. By capturing the patient's perspective, we can better empathise with their experience and focus on what matters most.

These stories, whether positive, negative, or a mix of both, are crucial for understanding the service user experience. They serve as an invaluable tool for improvement, helping us identify areas for enhancement and transforming the experiences of patients and carers. Ultimately, they provide evidence of service quality, allowing us to share insights on what works well and what needs to be improved.

How are patient stories captured?

Patient stories can be written, filmed or audio recorded. We will discuss the various methods with you in order for us to decide the most suitable option for you.

Where do we share our patient stories?

Patient Stories can be shared in the following ways:

  • With services at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to enable staff to learn from the feedback given.
  • As part of Trust meetings, such as our monthly Trust Board or our Staff Induction.
  • With patients and members of the public through our website, social media and Annual Involvement Report

We will discuss with you prior to your story being shared the options and gain your consent. You can also remain anonymous if you wish.
